Street dog finally finds hope and family when dog pawrents who found him alone in park return to shelter 18 months later to find no one wanted him, says: ‘We've decided to start the process of adoption.’

Life has all sorts of interesting twists and turns in it, but the last thing you'd expect to happen when reluctantly dropping a lost dog off at the shelter is that you would randomly find him there waiting for you to adopt him 18 months later. But that is just the kind of luck that our protagonist pupper pawrents had.

We were lucky enough to find this gem of a 'meant to be' story amongst the tails of all kinds of canines, but this one's uniqueness truly caught our attention. First and foremost this is one of the more wonderfully responsible rescues we have come across. When these pupper pawrents met their lost doggo in the park they immediately understood that the process of finding his pawrents or a new home meant that either way he would be coming to live with them for an extended period. Knowing that a stable and loving home will always be better than putting more strain on the already stretched shelter system.

And while it was not easy trying to track down the pupper's potential pawrent, these canine lovers did not flinch for a moment. That is until it came close to the time they were meant to depart for a trip. Knowing that a long train journey across the country could be very problematic for a new doggo who barely understands who his hooman is, these pawrents acknowledged they had a problem on their hands and worked tirelessly to find a solution. But when left with no other, they turned to a shelter for space. Luckily they had it, but what this couple would come to find many months down the line when they returned to the same shelter to volunteer was unprecedented, and should really have never happened.

Wow, that must have been tough. From the get go you can see that these are really responsible dog lovers. They knew that to begin with, the moment the dog came up to them the responsibility for his care and comfort was on their shoulders. Then going above and beyond to make sure that there was not someone out there looking for their lost love. But as life will have it, there will always be something that throws a wrench into the works. But being the responsible and caring people they are, these pawrents at least made sure this cute canine would have a safe place to stay at the shelter.

Holy smokes, that is one heck of a ride. And what a mess the shelter’s communication had made. Honestly, this is one of the million reasons that it is tough for us to trust in shelters. Sure, they are doing their best, they are working with what they have and doing us all a great service. But when it is the act of one simple phone call to update the hoomans who rescued the pup and see if they might still want him 2, 3, heck even 6 months after the pup was placed at the shelter is simply silly. Just think how much money this shelter could have saved with that one call that would have had this couple running to reunite with their doggo.
